Flash Back Friday

These pictures were taken on this day in 2005. Keith and I had gone to San Diego as guests of the Chemical Division at United Suppliers. We didn't have any set agenda so this day we set out with Dave and Joan Mulder and Renee and Dave Hoyt and we went to Tijuana, Mexico. We took a train down to the border, walked across the border, and then took the "Blue Bus" to some area shops. We had the blue bus line and the red bus line to choose from. The blue bus line was new in the business and they were a little cheaper. After a little driving, we were stuck in traffic and we suddenly heard a loud BANG. To be honest, it sounded a little like a gun shot. I looked over and both of the other couples were laying on the floor of the bus....the Daves laying on top of the wives to protect them. Like Knights in Shining Armour! But not Keith and I! We were both sitting up looking out the window trying to figure out what was going on. As it turns out someone had thrown a rock through the windshield! As Mr. Blue Bus driver explained it, it was the Red Bus line trying to deter this new business coming into the area. Apparently, that is how you handle business competition in Tijuana!

After they dropped us off and told us where they would pick us up again, we walked through some shops and had some drinks. After the excitement of getting there, we all seemed ready to make our visit quick and get back into the United States.

We went back to where we were told to meet the bus and we waited. And waited. And waited. The blue bus never showed up. We decided that the red bus people had scared the blue bus people away.

We eventually headed over to the red bus station and caught a ride back to the border so we could walk back across and get back on the train. What an adventure!! It didn't take long for the story to get around to the other United Suppliers people. Hands down...we had the best story of the day!

We were shocked as we were getting on the red bus when Keith ran into 2 guys that he had graduated from high school with. Really....what are the odds that you run into people from little ol' Coon Rapids, Iowa while you are in Tijuana!?

(Renee...this is obviously before you started carrying your camera every where! Otherwise you would've had more pictures to document our time in San Diego and Mexico! I didn't even touch on our foot tour in the POURING rain to get to a sea food restaurant on a Friday during Lent!)
